30 Days: Day 24 – The Back of Things
Day 24 was an important one for me. It marks the beginning of the final week of this project, which as been an interesting test for me. As such, day 24 also presented its own challenge with the subject matter. Some of the first ideas that I considered photographing were the backs of abandoned restaurant buildings, people, and cars. The problem I had with each of those was going to be focusing the attention of the photo on the subject matter and making each one unique.
That idea of trying to focus the attention on the object alone got me thinking about a DIY light box I had made several years ago. I had tested the light box on some of the different vinyl toys and film cameras that I have on display around my house. For this project, I decided to create a new light box using a different material, and revisit some of the same subject material, but photograph them using a different method and angle. While the original light box was made using a cardboard box with tissue paper as a filter, I made the new one using three white foam boards, and this light box set up was much sturdier & durable than its predecessor.
