Yellow River Game Ranch

Had some time off last week and took a ride over to the Yellow River Game Ranch.  I live less than fifteen minutes away from this place and had never actually been inside.  I’m sure that there’s all sorts of ethical and dietary issues that can be raised about places like this, but for one day I tried to ignore most of the concerns that I’d normally have and just  enjoy the animals.

Here is a sample of what I saw.

The Rock Ranch Hot Air Balloon Rally

I took the family down on a short road trip this past weekend with plans of seeing the Hot Air Balloon Rally that was scheduled to take place at The Rock Ranch in The Rock, Georgia. I’ve always loved hot air balloons, but I had never before seen one in person, and this was going to be my first opportunity.

Unfortunately, both the rally and the races scheduled for the day had to be cancelled due to excessive wind, but the day was not a total waste, as a handful of the participants stuck around for the entire day, and we were able to at least see some of the balloons during the late evening hours, despite their not being able to leave the ground.

Below are a few of the photos from the afternoon, and I’ve got another balloon rally on my calendar for next month, so hopefully we’ll fare better then.

New Gallery Added: This is Sparta

Late last week, I was able to spend a few hours walking around the city of Sparta located in middle Georgia.  The town has a rich antebellum history prior to World War I, but since then has fallen on extremely hard times.  The city is the county seat of Hancock County, which is considered to be the poorest county in the state.

The focus of this series for me was both an exploration of the historic architecture of the city, as well as to showcase the current plight of the city and its citizenry.  Below is a small sample of the series, which can be viewed in its entirety on its gallery page.

Energy of Illness in ASMP Bulletin

The newest issue of the ASMP Bulletin is now available, and I am happy to report that one of my photos from the Energy of Illness series that I started as part of the Young Photographers Alliance mentoring program is one of the featured images.

It is an honor to be chosen as one of their featured photographers out of the fifty-nine participants that took part in this program, and I hope to keep up the momentum from this going forward.  My photo is on the third page of the pages listed here, along with the cover and the story itself.

To read the full article and see all of the featured photos, please visit the ASMP Bulletin reader site (free sign up is required).
