St. Vincent at Variety Playhouse on 5/19
After years of missing her live act for one reason or another, I was finally able to make it out to a St. Vincent show this past weekend at the Variety Playhouse. It wasn’t my sort of venue (or crowd, for that matter), and for the second week in a row I had to photograph on the sly, but seeing Annie Clark is officially off the bucket list, and that’s all that really matters. Shearwater opened the night.
Beach House at the Georgia Theatre
Beach House is one of those bands that holds a special place in my heart, so special in fact that their album Devotion was the first music that was ever played for my son when he was born a little over two years ago. “All the Years” was the first song played off of that album for those wondering. So when I heard the news that they were making a trip to Athens to promote their new album Bloom, it wasn’t much of a question as to whether or not I was interested in going.
They were playing at the recently rebuilt Georgia Theatre, which I was told has a pretty strict no camera without special permission policy. Since I didn’t have special permission for this show, I did my best to take photos on the sly. Here’s a few of them.
Tennis with Hospitality & Young Empires
Over the weekend I made a trip back to the E.A.R.L. and shot the band Tennis along with Hospitality and Young Empires. Surprisingly (to me at least), the energy at the show and in the crowd seemed to be much higher than it was at Cults earlier in the week.
Cults with Spectrals & Mrs. Magician
I have a pretty hefty concert calendar for the next few months, and things kicked off with a bang on Tuesday of this week with a performance by the band Cults and special guests, Spectrals and Mrs. Magician. The sold out show went down at the E.A.R.L. in Atlanta, which is probably my favorite venue in the city.
I’ll be back early next week with shots from the next show, but, until then, enjoy these.
P.S. I’m offering the image found in the header as a desktop wallpaper, which can be downloaded here.
YPA Energy is Everything Exhibition Starts Tomorrow
I’ve largely been away from my camera and working on a couple of other projects over the last two months, but I wanted to post this reminder that the photos that I did as part of the Young Photographers Alliance mentoring program will be on exhibition and open to the public starting tomorrow, January 12. The exhibition is free.
